oil spotlight: purification

This week I’m featuring my absolute favorite blend to use around the house: Purification! When you invest in the Premium Starter Kit, you’ll get to try it out as it’s one of the “Everyday Oils” included in the kit, and it seriously is such a versatile and powerful oil that you'll use it EVERY SINGLE DAY. In fact, when I purchased my first kit, it was the oil that I ran out of first. It's that good.

Purification is an essential oil blend comprised of citronella, lemongrass, rosemary, tea tree, lavandin and myrtle. When I diffuse it, I always pick up on the lemongrass first - it smells SO fresh and clean. I diffuse it regularly around the apartment, but especially when I notice the pet smells taking over. I love my little piglet pup, but I do not love her smells!

In addition to diffusing, purification can be used topically. Dilution is generally not necessary for adults. (Dilution is typically recommended for children for all essential oils and blends.)

Top 10 uses for Purification:
  1. Disinfect/freshen the air. Diffuse for 15-20 minutes to clean the air and neutralize odors. Great for pet areas and “wet dog smell.” Add 2 drops to cotton balls and place in the air vents of your home or car.
  2. Apply to bug bites to stop itching.
  3. Make a natural bug spray. Purification takes the itch out of bug bites, but it's also great for making a homemade bug repellent to prevent that itchiness in the first place! Combine 10 drops each of Thieves, Purification and Peppermint, 4 oz Witch Hazel, and 4 oz Distilled Water in a spray bottle.
  4. Acne spot treatment. Apply neat (undiluted) to help treat acne and promote healing.
  5. Neutralize shoe odor by adding 2 drops of a cotton ball placed inside shoes.
  6. Freshen laundry. A couple drops in the laundry when washing workout clothes takes the lovely smells out of my sweaty yoga clothes!
  7. Another option for freshening laundry: About 8 drops of Purification on one wool dryer ball (I use 6 balls total, but only add oils to one) in the dryer is great for freshening clothes.
  8. Neutralize trash can and diaper pail odors by adding 2 drops to a cotton ball placed in the bottom of the pail.
  9. Combine a few drops Purification with baking soda and sprinkle on carpet. Vacuum to freshen carpet and get rid of pet smells.
  10. Rub on the outside of a sore throat to help ease pain.

I really do use this oil everyday. Purification was recently out of stock for a while, and I just about cried when I ran out. As soon as I heard it was back in stock, I used my Essential Rewards points to order 4 bottles (FOR FREE - thanks, Essential Rewards!!) to make sure I never have to be without it again . . . or at least not anytime soon!

I will occasionally diffuse purification during my aromatherapy yoga classes to help purify the air as we practice a detox flow, promoting happy and healthy bodies. I hope to see you on the mat!
